you’re the Bugatti in a world of Priuses.
🚀 "If you say you have no competition, you just submarined your chances.” 🚀
Yesterday morning at Launch Pad Accelerator Cohort 1, William D Taylor IV emphasized a crucial point: if a potential investor asks, “Who’s your competition?” and you answer, “None,” it might sound bold--but in reality, it’s an instant red flag.
Someone, somewhere is solving the same problem (even if it looks different!). As Williams put it, when cars were new, their competition wasn’t other cars-it was the horse. To win, you must know both your direct rivals and all the other options your customer might choose.
So never shy away from talking about competition. OWN how you’re different and bring more value.
Admit what’s already out there. But then explain why you’re the Bugatti in a world of Priuses.
Show investors you’ve done the homework, understand your industry, and have a plan for every customer choice.
Because at the end of the day, your moat isn’t just tech-it’s the network, your customer understanding, and your simplicity & scalability. Every user brings compounding value.
Products that can scale without ballooning complexity are the only ones that win big-and investors are here for 100x companies, not tweaks.
